An RDL is short for Romanian Dead Lift. One of the best ways to train the powerhouse of an athlete, the Posterior Chain.
*Notice Josh’s upper body posture throughout the movement. He doesn’t round his back on the bottom of the lift like most beginners.
*Feel a pull in your hamstrings, and pull your heels back to stand up.
Here is a way we have found to help boost vertical jump in the weight room.
Here are some take-home points when doing this lift:
*Tyler goes into a quarter squat position before exploding up.
*Notice how he lands “soft” with a bend in his knees to lighten the impact when landing.
*Tyler is doing sets with 95 pounds, around 20% of him max squat – Go LIGHT and focus more on speed of movement.
Try this exercise and tell me you don’t feel more explosive after!
When we train hard, we breakdown our muscles. Muscles need nutrients fast in order to build back stronger for next time. This “repair” needs to take place no later than 20 minutes after the workout session. A huge sense of urgency should be felt when you rack the bar after your last set. Your mission of finding a post-workout meal begins.
But what should you eat?
Research shows that the following combination to be the best:
Listen up Muchachos…Tyler hates, I mean HATES Lat Pulldowns.
I warn you – don’t let him catch you doing a set of Lat Pulldowns when he’s around – Big man will get more red than normal and have put the “Hulk Clap!” on your face! LOL
PS – Pick up some bandshere
Josh explains how to easily make a sandbag for a simple-but-vicious workout tool. This falls in the “odd lifts” category because it is nontraditional in nature and works more muscles than traditional methods. Sandbags are used in strongman training as well and forces the whole body to work at once…trust me – it’s no joke.
I tell you what, we have some educated followers in our tribe. We had a 14-year-old young athlete ask about how to train their transvers abdominis, that’s awesome! You guys are great, keep coming with the questions and we will try to keep up.
Enjoy:
PS – Can you tell what hardware store Tyler’s father-in-law runs? Hmm…
